We seek a senior-level expert with demonstrated experience in technical regulations and New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs), with a focus on advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS). Experience with automotive standards is also desired. The candidate is expected to represent Qualcomm in international and national activities by monitoring and influencing regulatory landscape related to the technical regulations and NCAPs. Regular attendance and participation in organizations such as SAE International, ISO, CLEPA, VDA, NCAPs and UNECE is anticipated. Activities therein will include development of technical contributions, preparation and delivery of high-quality presentations, work to obtain consensus, proactive promotion of Qualcomm technologies, and protection of Qualcomm’s interest in the emerging areas. A significant portion of the ADAS/ADS technical regulatory activity is expected to take place in Europe (e.g., engaging in working groups under CLEPA, VDA, and/or UNECE), but some activities in other regions of the world are also likely. Consequently, the candidate is expected to be available to travel frequently (e.g., 15 to 20 short (1-3 day) and 4 to 6 week-long meetings per year are to be expected, including both domestic and international destinations as determined by the specific organization).

This position is flexible on location anywhere in Europe, preferred countries are Germany, Sweden and Romania. 

Responsibilities 

The candidate will operate in collaboration with different groups and colleagues within the company, including those affiliated with research, engineering/development, products, business, and government affairs. An important internal role will be linking of regulatory requirements into dedicated organizational unit responsible for product development and execution.

The candidate will work in an exciting environment with a team of some of the brightest systems engineers in the industry and will have frequent interaction with other engineering disciplines. The aim is to define technical guidelines and requirements, identify preferred changes/updates to existing standards and regulations, and influence the direction of emerging standards to maximize alignment with company products and strategic direction.

 

Minimum Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

– Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

– PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

*Global travel several times per year for standards organization forums.

Skills/ Experience

– Strong expertise (5+ years) in ADAS/ADS technologies

– Experience in automotive technical regulations and consumer ratings

– Knowledge of automotive standards and standards development considered beneficial

– Understanding and ability break down vehicle level regulations to the level of Qualcomm products

– Experience in customer relations (automotive OEMs and Tier’s) as well in automotive processes

– A good understanding of key business concepts and being able to relate this to various business strategies for both Qualcomm and others in the industry

– Strong experience in Product management / Project management experience is highly desirable

– A good understanding of end-to-end system design

– Knowledge of cybersecurity, AI or machine learning would be beneficial

– Experience in working with pre-competitive partners like NGO’s or academia is beneficial

Additional Skills

– Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills is required

– Candidate should highlight any experience as an editor, rapporteur or chair in various organizations

– German professional language is beneficial

– Ability to work independently
