MSc Meetup Brings Together Young AI Talent from ELLIS Units Amsterdam and Nijmegen

Last week, the ELLIS unit Amsterdam hosted a vibrant spring edition of the MSc meetup, bringing together nine Master’s students from two ELLIS units for a day of research exchange and community building.

This recurring event is a collaborative initiative between the ELLIS units in Amsterdam and Nijmegen — both committed to fostering excellence in AI research through dedicated MSc programmes. The goal of the meetup is to connect promising students, encourage discussions around their latest work, and facilitate meaningful academic and social interactions.

The day began with a lunch under the sun at the Cafe Neo, followed by a mini guided tour of Lab42, home to the ELLIS unit Amsterdam. The Lab42 is a hub of innovation, housing some of the city’s most exciting AI labs, startups, and institutes, including the Institute of Informatics, Institute for Logic, Language and Computation, Intelligent Robotics Lab, CuspAI, and the Code To Change.

After the tour, all nine students took the stage to present their recent research. The group included six Excellent Fellows from ELLIS Nijmegen (Jen Dusseljee, Victor-Gabriel Petre, Nicole Rogalla, Katharina Sommer, Simon Reichert, Jasper P.) and three Honours students from ELLIS Amsterdam (Akis Lionis, Max Belitsky, Márk Bodrácska). Each presentation sparked thoughtful discussions, providing valuable feedback and insights from peers and faculty alike.

After the scientific programme, the group enjoyed a more informal setting in Lab42’s recreation area, where they played table tennis and engaged in candid conversations about student life and the future of AI.

Special thanks go to David Cicchetti for facilitating the presentation session and helping make the event a success.
