NeurIPS Fest 2024: A vibrant gathering of AI/ML researchers from all over the Netherlands

The ELLIS Unit Amsterdam hosted its third annual NeurIPS Fest on November 28, 2024, at LAB42, bringing together 120 registered participants and showcasing 25 posters. This year, the event was co-organized in collaboration with the ELLIS Units in Nijmegen and Delft, creating a vibrant gathering of AI/ML researchers from all over the Netherlands.

 

Keynote Presentations

Prof. Dr. Cees Snoek, completed his term as the ELLIS unit Amsterdam’s director. He took the opportunity to present updates on the latest achievements of the unit, including ; (1) the Inclusion of new research themes to expand the ELLIS unit scope, which are the Socially Intelligent Artificial Systems (SIAS) and the Tabular Representation Learning (TRL); (2) Launch of the new ELLIS unit Amsterdam website, and (3) Announcement of the new director for the unit; Dr. Jan-Willem van de Meent.

The event featured a keynote talk 'Diffusions, flows, and other stories' by Dr. Christian A. Naesseth, who shared insights from his impressive contribution to the NeurIPS 2024 Conference with five accepted papers this year. His research highlights cutting-edge advancements in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

At the 2024 NeurIPS Conference, his lab and collaborators will present 5 accepted papers.

 

The session concluded with Dr. Jan-Willem van de Meent presenting a token of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Cees Snoek. The ELLIS unit Amsterdam community expresses its gratitude for his leadership and significant contributions to the advancement of the local AI/ML community over the past three years.

 

Poster Session & Networking

Following the keynote session, the evening continued with an inspiring poster session, where researchers presented their state-of-the-art works across diverse topics in AI and machine learning. The session offered an excellent opportunity for discussion, feedback, and networking, thereby strengthening the connections within the ELLIS communities across the Netherlands.

The event demonstrates a true collaborative spirit and the pursuit of excellence in AI/ML research fostered by the ELLIS network. The ELLIS unit Amsterdam is pleased to be part of the scientific festivity alongside 16 other ELLIS units that organized the pre-NeurIPS events locally across Europe.
