CIVR History
CIVR or the International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval has a history
dating back to 1998. Back in 1998, there were several UK based meetings on the Challenge
of Image Retrieval (CIR): CIR98 (Newcastle, UK), CIR99 (Newcastle, UK), and CIR2000 (Brighton, UK).
In 2002, the first CIVR Conference, CIVR2002 was held in London, UK.
Its proceedings were published by Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series
(LNCS 2383).
The new aspects of CIVR were that it would be a truly international meeting and that an equal focus would be on video retrieval.
Following that year in 2003, CIVR2003 was held at the Beckman Institute, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL, USA. The proceedings were published by
Springer Lecture Notes (LNCS 2728).
CIVR2004 is the 3rd International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval and it was
held from 21 until 23 July 2004 at Dublin City University, Ireland, UK. The proceedings were published by
Springer Lecture Notes (LNCS 3115).
In 2005, CIVR2005 the 4th International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval,
the 6th conference in the series of visual information retrieval meetings. It took take place in the School of Computing, National University of Singapore,
Singapore on 20 - 22 July 2005. The proceedings were published by
Springer Lecture Notes (LNCS 3568).
In 2006, CIVR2006 the 5th International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval,
the 7th conference in the series of visual information retrieval meetings. It took take place in the
Arizona State University in Tempe Arizona, USA from 13 until 15 July. The proceedings were published by
Springer Lecture Notes (LNCS 4071).
